William Shatner contemplates retirement after Lifetime Achievement Award

Does a Lifetime Achievement Award mean it's time to ride off into the sunset? William Shatner isn't so sure.
On Sunday, February 2, the 93-year-old Hollywood legend received the honor at the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards Showcase. The next day, he shared his thoughts on Instagram.
"Yesterday I was honored by the @SaturnAwards with a Lifetime Achievement Award 😍," he wrote alongside a photo from the event. "Although I'm wondering if that's a subtle hint to retire‽ 🤔🤷🏼😉🤣."
Fans quickly weighed in.
"Bill you know you're on fire 🔥 keep going x," one person wrote.
"Oh please, don't retire. As long as you have fun doing all the things you do, why should you? You're still WAY too fit and too young at heart to retire!!! 😍😍😍" another pointed out.
"If you ever wonder, 'did I make a difference?' You most certainly have! Don't stop now!! 👏👏" chimed in a third.
"Well deserved Bill! But no, that is not a hint to retire, just the recognition of a much loved Career and Life that was well lived," someone else said.
"Retire? There is so much to do! You cant do this. Still waiting for a Star Trek Full-Cast-Audio with you and Patrick Stewart - An Adaption of 'The Return' - Anyway Congrats Mr. Shatner! " another added.
The Saturn Awards — presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films — honor the best in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. But it's about more than just winning. "It's a celebration of the movies, shows, and people we cherish," the Academy said in a statement obtained by Variety.
Shatner, of course, has had a career worthy of honor. From Star Trek's Captain Kirk to Boston Legal's Denny Crane, he's been a fixture in Hollywood for over six decades. He's won Emmys, Golden Globes, written best-selling books, and even went to space in 2021.
But retirement? That's still up in the air.
Shatner has been married four times, most recently to Elizabeth Shatner, whom he divorced in 2020 — but the two have since reunited. "My little secret is I'm living with my former wife," he told Parade in March 2024. "We've in effect remarried. But we haven't done another ceremony."
The Canadian actor was previously married to Gloria Rand, with whom he shares three adult daughters: Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie.
