The newest recruit to the next "Godzilla x Kong" film isn't going to be able to say he doesn't have at least some experience in dealing with giant lizards. Sam Neill, known best for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World" films, is the latest actor to sign on the sequel to last year's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Legendary says of the upcoming Monsterverse sequel that "several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat."

Neill joins the recently announced Kaitlyn Dever as well as Jack O'Connell, who will play Kaitlyn's brother. Dan Stevens, who played Trapper in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," is also confirmed to reprise his role. Other cast rumored to be joining the film include Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

Legendary and Warner Bros.'s Monsterverse began in 2014 with "Godzilla and has proven to be a dependable money maker ever since. Even in the midst of the pandemic, 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" managed to get fans out of their houses and put butts in seats. The other entries in the series are "Kong: Skull Island," "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." There's also the successful Apple TV+ series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" which will soon have a second season.

One interesting thing that sets the Monsterverse apart from other cinematic universes is that the monsters are the stars. Unlike, say for example, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it frees the filmmakers from worrying about necessarily casting the actors in the same roles every single movie. While some actors have appeared in a number of different Monsterverse projects, plenty of big names have appeared in films like "Kong: Skull Island" and without ever being seen again in the franchise.

Sam Neill first played Dr. Alan Grant in 1993's "Jurassic Park," and returned to the role in 2001's "Jurassic Park III" and 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion." We don't know what his role will be yet in "Godzilla x Kong 3."

"Godzilla x Kong 3" is scheduled to hit theaters March 29, 2027.
