NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced Wednesday that four U.S. soldiers who went missing during a training exercise in Lithuania have died, though he said details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press, confirmed the soldiers were involved in a training accident but declined to provide information on their condition.
While visiting Warsaw, Rutte expressed condolences, saying his thoughts are with the soldiers' families and with the United States.
