'Fantastic Four' Trailer Unveils First Look at Silver Surfer

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors
Disney unveiled a new trailer for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" at CinemaCon in Las Vegas which reveals the first look at Julia Garner as a female Silver Surfer. It also reveals what many fans had been expecting - that the movie finds Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) is pregnant, presumably with Franklin Richards.

According to THR, the trailer opens with Sue and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) finding out about the pregnancy. Sue assures Reed, "We can do this."

The trailer goes on to show the team facing different threats from the world-devouring Galactus (Ralph Ineson) with Sue responding to the threats with, "We will face this together. We will fight it together — as a family."
Reed is at a press conference, telling the populace, "We will protect you." It's then that we cut to Julia Garner flying by as the Silver Surfer.
The trailer has not yet been released online.
Garner's version of the Silver Surfer is not the first live-action version of the character. In 2007's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," Doug Jones did the bodywork for the titular herald while Laurence Fishburne voiced him.
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" will arrive in a crowded month of blockbusters. The month will start off with "Superman" launching the cinematic DCU and then comes "Jurassic World: Rebirth." Marvel's first family faces some stiff competition and it will be the last MCU family before next year's event film "Avengers: Doomsday."
All four leads of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" will reprise their roles for "Avengers: Doomsday," and the latter film will also star Robert Downey, Jr. as Doctor Doom. Considering Doom is the chief rival of the Fantastic Four in the source material, there is plenty of speculation that Downey could at least make a cameo in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
It is not yet clear exactly how the Fantastic Four will interact with the rest of the MCU because they appear to be on an alternate Earth. Clearly, the multiverse will play a large part in "Doomsday."
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" hits theaters July 25. The film is directed by Matt Shakman. It stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, John Malkovich, and Sarah Niles.
