F-35 crash video shows training exercise go wrong in Alaska

New footage appears to show the moment a U.S. F-35 fighter jet crashed at an Air Force base in Alaska on Tuesday.
The advanced stealth aircraft crashed at 12:49 p.m. local time (4:49 p.m. ET) on Tuesday at the Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, the base confirmed in a statement.
The pilot was transported to a military hospital for evaluation but was "safe," the military added. The air force will carry out a "thorough investigation," said Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, based at Eielson.
A brief clip circulating online appears to show an F-35 spiraling mid-air before it hits the ground, causing a significant fireball. What looks to be the aircraft's pilot can be seen floating with a parachute nearby.
Newsweek could not independently verify the clip, and has contacted the 354th Fighter Wing for comment via email.
