Brian Cashman fires back at Yankees legends Derek Jeter and A-Rod
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman addressed comments made by Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and fired back.
During the FS1 postgame show after New York was knocked out of the playoffs by the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees legends called out the team, with Rodriguez calling the roster “one of the worst constructions of a roster I’ve ever seen.” Jeter echoed Rodriguez's comments defending Boone, while claiming that Boone was not the one calling the shots during the games.
In a video posted to X by WFAN-FM, Cashman fired back at the comments made by the two legends.
“It's not true, clearly,” Cashman said Thursday. "“… And they don’t know. "Clearly, they don't know. I know that (Jeter) said that. I don't know what he meant by it. He did say he doesn't have inside knowledge when he said it, but he did say it, for whatever reason. I think that's the bugaboo that people get to throw out there when they’ve got nothing else to throw.
“There's always the boogeyman of, ‘Other people are making the calls.’ ‘Analytics, analytics, analytics’ -- people like to throw that, too. And none of that's accurate. At the end of the day, you put Joe Torre under a deposition, you put Joe Girardi under a deposition or you put Aaron Boone under a deposition -- I've never picked the lineup. We've never picked a lineup. We don't tell them who to play. We don't tell them who to pitch, whether it's the ‘pen or the rotation. It's just a sad, sad throwaway comment for people to make (who) don't really know.”
Jeter and Rodriguez are both 14-time All-Stars, who each played for 20 or more seasons, and were a part of the Yankees' last World Series win. It's surprising to see how harsh Cashman's comments were toward the two legends, but one thing that remains certain is how New York needs to make changes to the roster for next season.
