The Los Angeles Angels used their offseason to beef up their infield depth, most recently signing former Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada to a one-year contract.
Now it's apparent why: veteran third baseman Anthony Rendon had a setback in his rehabilitation from a 2024 hip injury. General manager Perry Minasian told reporters Wednesday that Rendon will require surgery that will sideline him for the long term.
Rendon, 34, signed a seven-year, $254 million contract with the Angels prior to the 2020 season. Since then, he's spent more time on the injured list than on the field.
