Amy Poehler podcast question backfires

Amy Poehler podcast question backfires

A question actress and comedian Amy Poehler asked on a recent episode of her podcast quickly backfired when her guests unknowingly insulted her.

Newsweek has reached out to Poehler's representative via email for comment.

The Context

The former Saturday Night Live (SNL) star launched Good Hang with Amy Poehler on March 18.

In the "About" section on Spotify, Good Hang is described as a podcast that welcomes "celebrities and fun people to her studio" each week.

"They'll share stories about their careers, mutual friends, shared enthusiasms, and most importantly, what's been making them laugh. This podcast is not about trying to make you better or giving advice. Amy just wants to have a good time."

Although she's only had eight episodes so far—with guests including Tina Fey and Jack Black—Poehler already briefly dethroned Joe Rogan's The Joe Rogan Experience from the Spotify charts, a podcast that is largely considered one of the most popular podcasts worldwide.

What To Know

On Tuesday's episode, which featured Giggly Squad podcast hosts Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo, Poehler asked their "thoughts and opinions" on various pop culture topics in a "speed round."

"Veneers?" the 53-year-old asked.

"No," Berner, 33, immediately responded, while DeSorbo, 32, said, "I don't think they ever look good."

"Never?" a wary Poehler asked.

"I think maybe there's like two people in Hollywood where I'm like, 'Wait, they have really good veneers,'" DeSorbo explained. "But like a normal person who can't afford it—"

"I think Amy has veneers," Berner whispered as the Parks and Recreation actress confirmed, "I do have veneers."

"Do you? Oh, they look great!" the Summer House star said. "You wouldn't know. But like you obviously have access to a great doctor. The normies out here shouldn't get them."

Poehler said she "had a chip tooth" on SNL, and while she initially thought it was "no big deal," she saw herself "on camera" and "gasped."

"So, I got my teeth fixed. I got veneers when I was on SNL," she said, noting, "Just two, but I have them."

The Emmy Award winner added, however, that she likely wouldn't have gotten veneers if she wasn't working in Hollywood.

"I think, where I came from in Massachusetts...I think I just wouldn't mind my chip."

What People Are Saying

In the comments underneath the episode on Spotify, fans praised the interview.

Spotify user Alessia Caruso wrote: "I'm so grateful for this podcast. I genuinely look forward to every Tuesday and have the best laughs ever. Thank you Amy!"

Jeffrey Brodzinski said: "I love Paige and Hannah's chemistry so much. They raise the bar on how a podcast partnership should treat each other. They always care so much about not talking over the other. It's refreshing."

Pauline Tracy added: "This just made my morning. These are literally my 3 favorite people."

Hailey Jones chimed in: "Loved it and love you Amy! Look forward to this podcast every Tuesday!!"
